Support your practice

For all our eligible patients who are due a free flu vaccine, we have already secured and purchased your vaccine and will be contacting you directly to have your vaccine done at the practice.

We offer a walk in service for flu vaccines, no need for an appointment just pop by.

The flu appointments are only a minute long so please be punctual and take off any extra layers on your arrival so that we can easily give you your flu jab.

Housebound patients

For our house bound patients a community nurse will be arranged. It is important to let the surgery know if your circumstances have changed.

Carer status

You may also be eligible if you are registered as a carer for somebody who is chronically unwell and needs regular support. You will need to let us know if this is the case.

Eligible patient groups

Patients with the following conditions are eligible for a free flu vaccine:

• are 65 and over (including those who'll be 65 by 31 March 2023)

• any age have certain health conditions (see Eligible conditions below)

• are pregnant

• are in long-stay residential care

• are a carer- receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick.

• live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)

• frontline health or social care workers

From 15th October 2022, all patients aged 50 to 65 will also be called for a free flu vaccine (including those who'll be 50 by 31 March 2023).

Eligible conditions

The flu vaccine is offered free on the NHS to anyone with a serious long-term health condition, including:

• respiratory conditions, such as asthma (needing steroid inhaler or tablets), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and bronchitis

• diabetes

• heart conditions, such as coronary heart disease or heart failure

• being very overweight – a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above

• chronic kidney disease

• liver disease, such as hepatitis

• neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), or cerebral palsy

• a learning disability

• problems with your spleen, for example, sickle cell disease, or if you have had your spleen removed

• a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or taking medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy

Tell the surgery if you have a long-term condition that is not in one of these groups. They can offer you the flu vaccine if they think you're at risk of serious problems if you get flu.

Private flu vaccine

If you are not eligible- you can still pay for a private flu vaccine from your local chemist.
