Reasonable Adjustments

< Back to policies & procedures

What are reasonable adjustments?

Reasonable adjustments are small changes we can make to ensure you can access our services safely, comfortably, and in a way that works for you.

This might include:

  • Providing information in a different format (e.g. large print or easy read)
  • Booking longer appointments
  • Offering a quiet waiting space
  • Communicating in a specific way (e.g. email instead of phone)
  • Supporting patients with sensory needs, disabilities, or long-term conditions

Our aim is to make sure everyone can access care equally.

Who can ask for reasonable adjustments?

You can request reasonable adjustments if you:

  • Have a disability (physical, learning, or sensory)
  • Have a long-term condition
  • Are neurodivergent (e.g. autism, ADHD)
  • Experience anxiety or distress in healthcare settings
  • Have communication needs
  • Require support accessing services for any other reason

(You do not need a diagnosis to ask for support)

What kind of adjustments can we provide?

Examples include:

  • Longer or double appointments
  • First or last appointment of the day
  • Communication by text, email, or letter
  • Hearing loop or interpreter services
  • Easy Read or translated information
  • Wheelchair-accessible rooms
  • Quiet or low-stimulation waiting areas
  • Support with forms or check-in

(If you need something specific, please let us know — we will always try to help)
